Hilo Judo Club Highlights

Hilo Hongwanji Judo Club held its annual Shinkyu Juyo Shiki (Ranking Ceremony and Awards Dinner) on Saturday July 8, 2017.  Rev. Brian Siebuhr officiated the ranking ceremony. Judokas were awarded their new ranks and/or certificates.  Receiving special awards were the following:  Newaza (Mat Technique) – Raelyn Ai-Yoneda; Tachiwaza (Throwing Technique) – Nicholas Ohara; Gambare (fighting spirit) – Brandie Babas; Most Improved Judoka – Tyler Ignacio, Most Outstanding Judoka – Tyler Yoshiyama.  Shinkyu Shiai (Annual Ranking Tournament) Winners: Yonembu Class: 1st Place – Iverson Babas; 2nd Place – Jet Miyahara; 3rd Place – Matthew Ohara.  In the Shonembu Class: 1st Place – LiAnn Yamamoto; 2nd Place – Kyler Dela Cruz; 3rd Place – Brandie Babas.

Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for adults and Tuesday and    Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for children and beginners.
