Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin MOTOYAMA ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Deadline for nominations: May 3, 2009 10:00 AM Click here to download the nomination form. Four awards in the amount of $100 each will be given to deserving young members of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin for outstanding achievement in a variety of youth activities sponsored by the Hilo Betsuin. The activities are: Dharma School, 4-H Clubs, Kendo, Judo, Jr. YBA, Scouting, and the Gakuen. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible for this award and teachers, leaders, and advisors of these groups are asked to submit nominations. More than one name may be submitted from a group. While the nominee should have an average or better record in scholastic performance, this is not the prime criterion. The intent is to recognize outstanding achievement in a field of endeavor, such as outstanding performance at a major budo tournament; a major creative effort in music, literature or art; a notable record of achievement in rising through the ranks of scouting; or a major contribution in community service by one of our young people. Because of the variety of activities involved, the nominating form cannot possibly cover all the factors leading to the achievement. It would be more helpful if the nominating form is accompanied by a written description of the student’s achievement. The donor, Mr. Motoyama, in making the donation of $10,000 toward this fund, intended to reward young Buddhists. Therefore, one of the requirements is that the nominee be an active temple member or come from the family of a Kyodan member and the nominating form asks for this information. All completed forms are due in the office by May 3, 2009 by 10:00am. Direct the forms to the Board of Buddhist Education. Questions may be referred to Joni Onishi. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in recognizing deserving young members of our Sangha. |
